Maintenance Guide

Every watch needs little attention and a minimum of care, like everything we care about.

Watches by Fonderia, with their hand-crafted soft vintage leather straps, are made to be at their best only by living at your wrist, day after day, maturing with you, sharing your experiences and your adventures.

The watches, made exclusively in steel, will need little care, that you can find described in the sections below.

Water

Some materials are water resistant, so they are not permeable to a fluid. In the case of watches, it is the resistance, expressed in atmospheres (ATM), that the watch opposes to the pressure exerted by a fluid.

For maintaining your watch’s ability to resist water for as long as possible, the seals of the following components must be checked every two years: glass, back and crown.

We must be very careful with the watch crown: it must always be correctly positioned, either screwdown or push button crown depending on the model, thus blocking the entry of water into the movement.

Fonderia watches are resistant to water pressure up to 30 meters (3 ATM pressure resistance), 50 meters (5 ATM), 100 meters (10 ATM), 200 meters (20 ATM) depending on the type of model. It is important not to adjust the crown or press the buttons (if any) to activate functions when the watch is in water, as the water can penetrate the case. It is not recommended to use the watch in hot water or water vapor (shower and sauna) as the seals may be damaged. Finally, it is not recommended to dive into the water wearing the watch as it could lead to shocks, damaging the watch.

Battery life in case of quartz movement watches

Quartz watches battery generally can last between 1 and 2 years. When the watch stops, you need to replace the battery in a specialized center.

Mechanical movement watch

An automatic mechanical movement watch harnesses energy through the natural motion of the wearer’s wrist. A manual winding watch, after being manually loaded by turning the crown 20 times clockwise, has a power reserve of approximately 30 hours without being worn. Therefore the watch has to be manually loaded by turning the crown clockwise for about 20 turns. If you're not wearing your watch for a long time, it is recommended to charge it regularly, once a month to prevent the lubricant inside the movement from thickening and to keep the watch away from moisture and dust.

Set the date

In mechanical watch with date, you should not set the date when the time on the watch reads between the hours of 9:00 pm and 3:00 am to avoid damage to the date sprockets.

Daily care

Every time you immerse the watch in salt water or in water containing chlorine, then wash it in fresh water, removing any foreign material with a soft brush (or a soft cloth).
